Change of Address Or Immigration Court Location

Change of Address with USCIS:

You must file form AR-11 for a change of address if you apply with USCIS for your asylum (affirmative case).

If you moved, and requested a biometrics appointment with USCIS, you must also inform them by sending the same change of address form AR-11

You must send two copies: one for the old immigration court and another one for the old ICE office. Print off a third copy to keep for you.

To find the address of ICE/OPLA:  click on this link: https://www.ice.gov/contact/field-offices and make sure to scroll down to Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA)

Attention: if you are sending for family members, you must send two copies for each member of the family

For proof of your new address:  You can use a bill or a letter that was sent to your new address ( you can ask somebody to send you a letter where you are)

IMPORTANT: Impacts on Work Permit Clock

Impacts on Work Permit Clock

  • If you plan to change cities, you should wait to apply for your asylum and then your work permit at the new location, so that it avoids stopping your work permit clock which is then very complicated to restart.

  • But, if you have an upcoming hearing at a court then consider waiting for the 180 days to pass and then request a change of court of location (change of venue) this way again you will avoid the clock to stop.

  • If you have a problem with restarting your clock, call the immigration hotline number: 1-800-898-7180, and ask to speak to the person in charge of the work permit clock.
